Herbal medicines save Xmas Day!

So it’s the time of year when most of us start to feel burnt out, exhausted and stressed. With Christmas just around the corner it can feel as though there is too much to do and not enough time to do it in. In between finishing up at work, present shopping and Christmas parties our lives are full and busy. And as exciting as it is, it can all be a bit overwhelming and exhausting. If you want to find out how herbal medicines can save your Christmas day read on!

Siberian Ginseng root

There is a specific class of herbal medicines known as ‘Adaptogens’. Adaptogens might be just what you need to breeze through the Christmas period and not fall victim to the “getting sick as soon as you stop” scenario.

In a nutshell, adaptogenic herbal medicines help the body ‘adapt’ to stress. They have a balancing effect on systems that may be running at 100 miles per hour.

Herbal medicines improve:

  • Physical and mental efficiency
  • Energy levels
  • Attention and mental clarity
  • Boost the immune system
  • Stamina, endurance and performance
  • and help to regulate the mood

One of my favourite adaptogenic herbal medicines is Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus). Siberian Ginseng is well researched and has a huge range of therapeutic activity. It has been clinically demonstrated to support the immune system, improve the stress response and increase stamina. It improves mental capacity, well-being  memory and concentration. Siberian Ginseng has been extensively trialled in athletes and has been found to improve endurance, stamina and performance. It is great as an energy tonic to alleviate fatigue and boost the immune system when feeling run down. Forget reaching for coffee and sugar as an afternoon pick me up – when taken daily as a tonic Siberian Ginseng is just what you need to give you back that energy and vitality.

Other adaptogenic herbs that you may have heard of before include Korean Ginseng, Withania, Rhodiola, Licorice, Rehmannia, Schizandra and Codonopsis.

As with all medicines, not all are created equal. There is a wide range in quality and potency. Here at Better Health we only use the best available source of each herbal medicine. So to be sure you are getting exactly what you need it is always best to avoid self prescription and check in with me at the practice.

And for some Christmas cheer, Tell your friends and family and if they are one of the first 5 people to book in for an initial appointment they will receive a complimentary Live Blood Analysis (value $110)
