Migraine Headaches
Migraine headaches are of the most common complaints we see in the practice.
Researchers aren’t sure what causes a migraine; although they know it involves changes in the blood flow in the brain. At first, blood vessels narrow or constrict, reducing blood flow and leading to visual disturbances, difficulty speaking, weakness, numbness, or tingling sensation in one area of the body, or other similar symptoms. Later, the blood vessels dilate or enlarge, leading to increased blood flow and a severe headache.
The common denominator of all headaches is always some form of irritation to your nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments can alleviate the stress on your nervous system caused by spinal joint dysfunction and in that way deal with the root cause of many headaches. Having said that, there are many other neurological irritants that need to be considered. Food sensitivities, environmental toxicity, emotional stress and trauma are to name but a few and are all taken into consideration when reviewing your case.
Our clinical success in managing migraine headaches is being increasingly supported with clinical trials showing that chiropractic care is both a safe and effective option for treatment.
In one study researchers reviewed 9 studies that tested chiropractic for tension or migraine headaches and found that it worked as well as medications in preventing these headaches. It is also worth noting that chiropractic adjustments do no come with the added risk of drug side effects and the added benefit of the improvements that are made to posture, muscular strength and control.
